What is it like to play tennis for a living?
Commonly, answers to this question include from the public might mention lavish lifestyles, visiting beautiful countries, and most importantly: high earnings. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the majority of the players, and this misconception often hides the difficulties that they face when trying to move up the ranks.
In our first interview, we had the pleasure of talking to Mario Vilella Martinez: a now-retired tennis player who reached as high as 158 on the ATP rankings.
In our conversation, he discusses the importance of mental health and players’ lack of support. Alongside this, he mentions the financial struggles that players often face, and how the life of a tennis player on the Challenger tour is often misunderstood.
